SAFETY CITY

Always Buckle Up

The Safety City Program was organized in 1985 with the cooperation and support of community businesses and various civic groups. The community, the police and area businesses worked in partnership to donate their time, resources and skills
to create a miniature city.

Third grade classes from Kanawha County and nearby areas are taught pedestrian safety, fire safety and home safety.

The "city" consists of real traffic signals, streets, sidewalks, buildings, railroad crossings and electric driven cars.

It is a one day program and serves approximately 60 schools within Kanawha County. 25-30 students are scheduled per class. The Charleston Fire Department assists with the classes.

If you have any questions about the Safety City program contact the Community Services Division at 304-348-6411
