| The SWAT team consist of a number of officers from various divisions and ranks within the police department. Swat is used in a variety of high-risk situations where it would not be safe for a uniformed officer to handle. Some examples of situations where the SWAT team may be called upon are: hostage situations, barricaded suspects, dignitary protection, raids, and riots. As well, the SWAT team may be called upon when there is a possible threat to public safety, such as a terrorist attack, to observe special events from clandestine locations.
